This is an extremely flexible tour, and is a good
introduction to eco-tourism, here we have taken
the basic 4 day tour and added a few extra nights
in Georgetown to make it a weeks break.
You could just take the 4 day tour at the beginning
or end of a Caribbean trip.
A Georgetown and Rainforest Mini-Break allows
you the opportunity to see the best of Georgetown
combined with the beautiful rainforest of the interior.
A Georgetown city tour highlights
the unique architecture and excellent examples of
old colonial homes and buildings constructed of
tropical hardwoods. The famous Stabroek Market,
once described as a "bizarre bazaar", contains every
conceivable item from household goods to gold jewellery.
The Botanical Gardens and zoo house one of the most
extensive collections of tropical flora in the Caribbean
and over 100 species of Guyanese wildlife including
jaguar, river otter, birds, snakes and other reptiles.
A tranquil boat trip along the
Demerara, Kamuni and Pokerero Rivers, passing under
the canopy of the rainforest will lead you to Timberhead
Rainforest Resort. Rustic lodges of tropical hardwood
and thatched roofs set at the edge of the forest,
overlooking the river, only a few miles away from
the Amerindian village of Santa Mission. Your stay
includes a visit to the village and the chance to
experience their way of life and purchase local
handicraft made from materials of the rain forest.
An exciting open-backed jeep
ride through the rainforest opens up to panoramic
views over the Essequibo River and Shanklands Rainforest
Resort. Here, white wooden cottages are set on 25
acres of rolling lawns overlooking the river. Surrounded
by tropical rainforest with nature trails and creeks
to explore, Shanklands is a great nature location
set in serene surroundings.
