The accommodation is very comfortable with quite a few amenities one might not expect of a ‘Jungle lodge’. Visitors show tremendous interest in Guyana’s colonial past, some of which is reflected in its architecture. For those who’s interest lie in plant life the botanic gardens, although not as well kept today, is a must. The Zoo is not at it’s best and giving it a miss might be time better spent elsewhere. The Markets are always fascinating and worth a walk around if only to take in the noise, hustle and bustle and sheer spectacle of the place.

The journey to Timberhead is a tranquil boat ride along two rivers, passing under the canopy of the rainforest.

Your introduction to Shanklands is an exciting open-backed jeep ride through the rainforest which opens up to panoramic views over the Essequibo River and Shanklands.
