Our Company
Originally established in 1981 and specialising in
tours to Guyana for over 10 years. We are fully bonded
with the civil aviation authority as is required by
law, our ATOL number is 3784, this means that any
money you pay to us will be refunded by the Civil
Aviation Authority in the unlikely event that we go
out of business before or even whilst on your tour.
Guyana
We know Guyana intimately and we only work with the
very best people over there, this is the only way we
can be assured of delivering the very best service and
as trouble free a trip as possible . Guyana is not at
all overdeveloped, in fact the opposite, which is really
it’s appeal. It is close to nature and with the
vast majority of it’s rainforest intact. The cost
of your tour impacts directly on preserving the location
and its communities as well as helping the economy of
the country. Visitors have a direct impact on the preservation
of the rainforest and tourism is being recognised as
a more effective use of the rainforest over logging.
Sensible Precautions
It is always wise to be cautious wherever you go, although
none of our guests to date have had any problems we
still urge you to be cautious especially when in any
big town. Our local operators are up to date with all
locally changing conditions and they keep us informed
as we will you. Most of your travelling will be done
in remote areas with experienced guides. The vast majority
of visits to Guyana are trouble-free; however for more
advice see
www.fco.gov.uk
for country advice on Guyana.
Essential Items
Following is a list of items we suggest you take with
you they may help to enhance your experience or make
it more comfortable:
- Light weight boots or trainers for walking.
- sandals or flip flops.
- Long light weight trousers.
- Shorts.
- Long sleeve shirts.
- Tee shirts.
- A hat.
- Sunglasses.
- Sun screen.
- An effective insect repellent.
- A small torch and batteries.
- A camera and film.
- A pair of binoculars and bird book (if interested
in birds).
Health Matters
We would refer you to your own GP's practice where you
will be given advice by people qualified to do so. For
your guidance however the following precautions are
recommended;
- Yellow fever (only if travelling from an infected
country)
- Malaria
- Hepatitis A&B
- Tetanus
It is generally recommended only to
drink bottled water and not to use ice made from water
not sterilised. Only eat meats that are well cooked
and fruits should be peeled, caution with salads as
they are often washed with local water supplies. The
change of diet and preparation of food is often a cause
of stomach upset and whilst there may be nothing wrong
with the food , the fact that it is not what you are
used to may cause some discomfort , we recommend you
carry remedies for such problems . An effective insect
repellent is essential and the wearing of long clothes
in the evenings will help prevent you from being bitten.
All bedding in the interior resorts are netted but the
above precautions will help to make your trip more comfortable.
Internal Transportation
Internal transportation will be by small light aircraft,
specially chartered on some occasions .These aircraft
have a limited weight capacity and therefore we suggest
you bring two bags or a suitcase and bag, the internal
flight will allow for baggage of 25 lbs. You can leave
excess luggage in Georgetown with our representative,
it will be safe and only carry what you need for the
time in the interior regions, laundry can also be arranged
during this period. We use 4-wheel drive jeeps for overland
trips and excursions and boats for travelling on rivers.
You safety is a priority and therefore the people in
charge of your safety are all very experienced in their
modes of transport. You must heed their advice when
given.
Accommodation
On the whole you will spend most of your time in remote
regions and therefore accommodation will be simple but
comfortable with adequate but basic facilities, no tents
(unless stated in your itinerary). At Iwokrama there
is only a field station where the accommodation is basic.
In town, usually your first and last nights, you will
be accommodated in a modern hotel with the usual facilities
of most modern hotels.
Meals
All meals are provided whilst in the interior region
as stipulated in your itinerary, whilst in town only
the meals stipulated (if any) in your itinerary will
be provided. Some of the interior "resorts"
provide a local bar where locally produced alcoholic
beverages are available.
B=Breakfast L=Lunch D=Dinner
Visa Requirements
There are no visa requirements for UK passport holders,
most European, North American countries and some commonwealth
states. You will need a full passport with 6 months
un-expired on departure. We will be happy to check your
visa requirements if not above. Please give us a call.
Wildlife Sightings
With any trip involving wildlife it is impossible to
guarantee a sighting, but each trip is designed around
know habitats.
Wild animals are extremely shy and will bolt at an approaching
human, if you get that close! On the whole strange noises
will drive them away. The best chance of seeing anything
is to be still, quiet and patient. We still cannot guarantee
a sighting but we hope your persistent effort will be
rewarded by sightings.
